USE EXAMPLES

Skip Tech has planned a step-wise approach to designing, prototyping, and testing a complete line of batteries from kilowatt to megawatt to gigawatt.

Skip Tech’s expandable systems power up commerce and entire communities when power is down and address user needs across a range of sites and situations.

Mobile/Temporary: The Skip Tech Truck

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Mobile & Temporary: The Skip Tech Truck is geared toward individuals and companies that have a temporary need for electricity where it does not currently exist or in remote locations. The Skip Tech Truck provides abundant, reliable electricity for a shorter duration. Currently, carbon-polluting diesel generators often power these types of events, inluding disaster relief, outdoor weddings, and open-air theater and music festivals. The Trucks can also power recurring events like farmer’s markets.

Commercial and Industrial (C&I)

Skip Tech Energy Storage for C&I is designed with small- to medium-sized business operations (20-50 KW range) in mind. This includes small-scale agriculture and wine industries. Many small-scale agricultural businesses and vineyards have already adopted renewable energy generation, primarily solar. Battery storage can supply clean, economically viable backup electricity for mission-critical processes (like cold storage) in the early mornings and evenings. It can also help mitigate power outages from wildfires and other natural disasters.

Microgrids

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Microgrids supply auxiliary power in the megawatts zone for stadiums, retail complexes, hotels and resorts, recreational complexes, and more. Stadiums and stores can’t afford to lose power during business time. Not only does business income suffer, but losing elevators, escalators, air conditioning, heating, or lights can cause safety issues. Skip Tech steps up when the grid is down and can provide a buffer to lower electricity costs.

Grid Edge

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Grid Edge is built for users in rural communities with unreliable connections. These communities face multiple concerns around energy security, continuity, quality, and affordability. Skip Tech seeks to make energy, tools, and systems accessible to people facing energy instability and the complexity of an ever-changing climate.

Grid-Scale

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Grid-Scale will address the issue of resilience at the gigawatt scale. Increases in extreme weather events are causing greater instability in the legacy utility grid, and this leaves more utility customers without power for extended periods of time. Grids have dealt with some issues for decades, like hurricanes and windstorms. However, climate change is making historical issues more severe and new forms of disruption more common, including wildfires and heat waves that can cause transmission lines to exceed their thermal ratings. These issues contribute to operational changes that cause disruptions like “public safety power shutoff” (PSPS) events. During PSPS events, lines are proactively deenergized to prevent possible fire ignition events.

Outages can last for hours to days and even weeks. Growing grid instability leads to life-threatening situations for individuals, including loss of heat and cooling, refrigeration, internet and communications, and water from well sources. It causes economically damaging situations for businesses. Skip Tech can provide better, more affordable, environmentally sound solutions than are currently available, for both individual entities and community microgrids.

Mobile/Temporary: The Skip Tech Truck

Skip Tech Energy Storage Mobility is geared for Individuals or companies that have a temporary need for electricity where it does not currently exist “in the wild” or in remote locations. Users would benefit from the Skip Tech Truck version of battery storage where abundant electricity is needed for a shorter duration. Currently foul-smelling, carbon polluting diesel generators are relied on to power remote events. Examples include one-time events like disaster relief, outdoor weddings, open air theater or music festival, or it could be a recurring event like a farmer’s market.

Commercial and Industrial (C&I)

Skip Tech Energy Storage for C&I is designed with small to medium size business operations in mind in the 20-50 KW range. The agriculture and wine industries are ripe for pairing renewable energy with battery storage for many of the reasons explained: cleaner, more reliable and economical electricity. What’s more many vineyards have already adopted renewable energy generation, primarily solar, and battery storage can supply backup electricity for mission critical processes like cold storage, a key step in the wine making process. Any planned or unplanned disruption in power can result in the loss of tons of grapes. The threat of power outages from wild fires is an added concern as grape growing in the Mediterranean climate coincides with higher risks of wildfires.

Grid Edge

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Grid Edge is built for users in rural communities with low caliber and unreliable connections who face multiple concerns around energy security, namely continuity, quality and affordability. This segment is likely to represent a large proportion of early adopters and underscores the company vision of making energy, tools and systems accessible to people challenged with the added complexity of an ever-changing climate.

Microgrids

Skip Energy Storage for Microgrids supply auxiliary power in the MW zone for stadiums, retail complexes, hotels and resorts, recreational complexes and more. When the stadium and the stores are full, businesses can’t afford to lose power. Not only does business income suffer, but when elevators, escalators, AC and lights are out, safety issues can become a huge liability problem. That’s where Skip Tech comes in as a power supply when the grid is down, or as a buffer to lower electricity prices.

Grid-Scale

Skip Tech Energy Storage for Grid-Scale in the GW range will address the issue of resilience. Increases in extreme weather events are causing greater instability in the legacy utility grid, and this leaves more utility customers without power for extended periods of time. These events include events that grids have dealt with for decades, like hurricanes and windstorms, as well as new forms of disruption including heat waves causing transmission lines to exceed their thermal ratings, wildfires, and operational changes that cause disruption like “public safety power shutoff” (PSPS) events where lines are proactively de-energized to prevent possible fire ignition events.

Outages can last for hours to days and even weeks. This growing grid instability is leading to life-threatening situations for individuals including loss of heat/cooling, refrigeration, internet & communications, water from well sources and economically damaging situations for businesses. Skip Tech can provide better, more affordable, environmentally sound solutions than are currently available, either for individual entities or for community microgrids.
