THE PRODUCT

THE PRODUCT

The Skip Tech energy storage solution is primed for an unparalleled level of energy density, end-user versatility, scalability, and safety, all while maintaining the vision of sustainable battery storage that is a frontrunner on price and performance. Other batteries for long-duration energy storage, like lithium-ion, raise a host of concerns including fire risk, cost, environmental damage from mining and disposal, and well known problems regarding long term performance degradation.

SCALABLE

SCALABLE

The Skip Tech battery scales from 10kWh up to 10,000kWh and beyond. The smallest batteries will fit on a mid-size truck while larger batteries will be built in 20-foot, and later 40-foot, storage containers. These containers can stack together to meet energy needs up to the level of a utility grid.

UNINTERRUPTIBLE PERFORMANCE

UNINTERRUPTIBLE PERFORMANCE

High Density

The hydrogen-bromine reaction has extremely high energy and power densities that make our system an attractive, and highly competitive, product within multiple market segments.

Decades of Peak Performance

Unlike lithium-ion batteries, Skip Tech’s system performance does not degrade over time. The system maintains maximum charge capacity over its 20+ year lifespan.

Right-Sized Solutions

Power is the maximum rate at which energy can be added to or drawn from the system. Storage capacity is the energy stored in the system, often measured in hours of maximum power delivered. In the Skip Tech System, power and storage capacity are completely independent. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, flow batteries are fully customizable to a customer’s requirements.

Safe

There is no danger of self-ignition or toxic smoke with our HBr flow battery. Bromine is non-combustible, so fire safety is inherently built into the system.

Expansive Temperature Tolerance

The Skip Tech system has a temperature tolerance of -20°C to 50°C (-25°F to 122°F+). If temperatures fall below -20°C (25°F), some of the system’s power will be needed for active heating. Above 50°C (122°F) the system continues to run but operates at a lower overall efficiency.

Long Duration

The Skip Tech system’s most economically efficient operating time is 8-12+ hours, but it can be customized to provide energy for longer or shorter intervals.

Reduce Emissions

If fully implemented at utility level, a Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) battery like Skip Tech’s system could cut American greenhouse gas emissions by 10% (based on internal calculations).

No Mining

Bromine is a co-product of desalination. No mining is required.

Domestic Supply Chain

The primary manufacturing materials for the liquid membrane cell (3D-printable PVDF plastic and carbon plates) can be domestically sourced. This enables rapid prototyping and in-lab testing.

The full Skip Tech system can also be manufactured in the US. This unlocks significant governmental support at all levels, including local, state, and federal.

100% Recyclable

Liquid membrane cell materials (PVDF plastic and carbon plates) and all energy storage chemicals (hydrogen and bromine) are 100% reusable/recyclable. PVDF in particular is a thermoplastic and is easy to melt down and directly reuse.

EASY TO IMPLEMENT

EASY TO IMPLEMENT

Transportable by Train, Truck, or Container Ship

The initial Skip Tech stationary-storage product is built into standard 20-foot ISO shipping containers. These are easily transported by truck, rail, and container ship.

Compact Footprint

Energy storage containers fit within compact footprints on the landscape. They can be tucked into existing infrastructure, including parking lots, substations, and more.
